Positive thinking creates new life for Steven

Steven AdamsSteven Adams is living proof that a positive mental attitude can surmount any obstacles.

Four years ago, Steven was fighting for his life following a horrific accident. After being run over by a truck, Steven sustained injuries to almost every part of his body, fell into a coma for three months, and was left without his sight.

Since then Steven has completed a Diploma in Human Services through the South West Regional College of TAFE, and this year was awarded TAFE Student of the Year for the entire South West region. He is currently undertaking a social work degree at Edith Cowan University,

"PMO (positive mental attitude) equals AYW (anything you want)," Steven said. "This is what drives me. With a positive attitude, I believe everything I want out of life is achievable."

These are amazing sentiments from someone who had to learn how to walk, talk and eat again after coming out of a coma, and who had to adjust to a life without sight.

Steven said that without assistance from Disability Services at TAFE, he would never have achieved his study goals. "Their assistance was second to none. They went out of their way to provide me with everything I required, and without that assistance, I would never have succeeded."

Steven’s success has brought him to a whole new life. In addition to his professional goals, Steven has also developed a new found passion for motivational speaking, and has been recognised for his contributions to the community through the 1998 Ross Stent Memorial Award, and the 1999 Angus Stewart Statewide Achievement Award.

It is no wonder then that Steven has written a book, still to be published, describing his amazing life to date. Titled "Monkey on the Wing", there is no doubt the book will be well received.
